Sometimes, part of the therapeutic process involves considering the wider picture of emotional wellbeing — including the possibility of psychiatric support. At The Surrey Centre, psychiatric input is available where appropriate, as part of an integrated and collaborative approach to your care.

We understand that the idea of seeing a psychiatrist can bring up uncertainty or concern. That’s why we approach this aspect of support with the same care, clarity and sensitivity we bring to everything we do.

Psychiatric input may be considered if:

  • You’re struggling with intense or persistent symptoms that are affecting daily life
  • There are concerns about your safety or ability to cope
  • Medication might be an appropriate part of your support
  • There’s a need for diagnostic clarity or a fuller understanding of your mental health history
  • You, or your therapist, would like a joined-up approach between talking therapy and medical care

Not everyone who comes to The Surrey Centre will need psychiatric support – and it’s never a requirement. If it does become part of your journey, it will be with your full involvement and consent.

We work closely with a trusted psychiatrist, who is sensitive to the emotional depth of therapeutic work. If it feels appropriate, we will discuss this gently with you and offer a referral for an assessment.

A psychiatric assessment may include:

  • A review of your mental health history
  • A conversation about current challenges and symptoms
  • Discussion of possible diagnosis, treatment recommendations, or medication options
  • Time to ask questions, reflect and make informed choices

Any psychiatric input remains collaborative and transparent, and is always integrated into the wider therapeutic relationship, not separate from it.

We believe that emotional wellbeing deserves to be understood in its full complexity — body, mind and soul. Psychiatric support, when offered with care and respect, can be a meaningful part of that picture.

Whether it’s helpful for a time, or not needed at all, we’re here to explore it gently, and walk that part of the path with you if and when it feels right.

Healing begins when we truly listen to ourselves. You are not alone – we are here to support you.
