Co Dependency

Co-Dependency is a pattern of behaviours and beliefs which are learned during childhood by those growing up in a dysfunctional family.  Although they may be a beneficial survival-tactic at the time, these behaviours can have long-term detrimental effects in adulthood if they are not “unlearnt”.

If you think that you may be in a co-dependent relationship with your partner, spouse, parent or child then you may recognise some of these traits:

  • Low self esteem
  • Feelings of inadequacy
  • Worry about how others may perceive you
  • Fear of not being in a relationship
  • Lack of assertiveness about your needs
  • Feelings of being trapped in the relationship

Recognising some of these traits is the first step towards understanding where these issues start and why they undermine you in relationships.  Having one-to-one therapy can help understand these issues so that you can have a happy, healthier relationship with yourself and others.
